If you have never been on a private speedboat tour, the experience can feel unfamiliar. Here is exactly what happens, from the moment you are picked up to the moment you return to your hotel.
Pickup and Transfer
Your captain will pick you up from your hotel lobby at the agreed time. The drive to the marina takes 10 to 20 minutes depending on your hotel location. You will be greeted at the marina, your captain will introduce themselves, and you will walk to the boat together. There is a restroom at the marina — use it before boarding.
Boarding and Safety Briefing
The boat is a modern speedboat with cushioned bench seating, a shade canopy, and a Bluetooth speaker. Your captain will show you where the life jackets are stored, how the shade canopy works, and where the fresh water and snacks are. You will be offered a cold drink and fruit within minutes of boarding.
The Ride
Speeds range from 15 to 35 knots depending on conditions. The boat handles chop well but you will get splashed — that is part of the fun. If you prefer to stay dry, sit in the rear seats. The captain will slow down if dolphins are spotted, and may circle back so you get a good look.
At the Destination
Whether it is an island or a snorkeling spot, the captain will anchor in shallow water. Snorkel gear is already prepared and sized for each person. You can enter the water from the boat ladder or step directly into the shallows if at a beach. The captain stays on the boat but nearby, watching you at all times.
The Return
After your allotted time, you will cruise back to the marina. The ride back is often the most beautiful — the angle of the sun lights up the coast differently in the afternoon. A hotel transfer will be waiting for you at the marina.
Common First-Timer Questions
Do I get seasick? Most people do not on a speedboat because the ride is fast enough that you do not feel the swell. If you are prone to motion sickness, take a tablet an hour before. Can I use my phone? Yes, but we recommend a waterproof lanyard pouch. Do I tip the captain? Tipping is appreciated but never expected — 5 to 10 EUR is a standard gesture if you enjoyed the trip.
